• What is the main claim of this section?
• What evidence supports that claim?
• How does this idea connect to the previous section?
• What assumptions does the author rely on?

The moment your explanation becomes vague, circular or dependent on quoting the original text, you have identified a comprehension gap. That discovery is valuable. Effective monitoring is not proving that you understand; it is detecting where you do not.
